Any chance an emergency HPWH install could participate? My old gas tank just died!

> With the R-410a → R-32/R-454b transition, we’re about to get a fresh lineup of the latest models for pretty much every single brand. Along with that, we expect a marginal performance boost.

What is the actual performance boost here? We are looking to get AC this summer since we only have it in a small part of the house right now, but could be convinced to hold off if there's a good performance boost.

This is truly an amazing job! We are new to Laminar Research and are currently focused on getting a mini-split installed in our house earlier this year. Could you share or email any updates on this round of the campaign? Thanks

General announcement email scheduled for Saturday, but I'll reach out to you too specifically!

How do I get work done on my home as a part of your Spring 2025 campaign? Do I just call up the relevant contractor(s) from your Excel sheet and work with them directly to get the pricing that you listed in your Excel? Or, do I work with someone from Laminar to coordinate with the contractors and get the work started?

Kit's avatar

We'll be sending out an email in a few days to kick off scheduling. Can't share full details yet, but since you have existing ductwork in the house, you'll want to be a part of this deal!

Thank you! I do have ductwork, but might need some pre-estimate ductwork analysis to be completed to figure out if they can be reused fully, per your blog posts. Will await your email.

Has the campaign started yet? I am on the mailing list but haven’t seen any updates.

Replied to you on email!

I'm new here and love this idea. Will it always be limited to heat pumps or might you expand to, for instance, solar panel installations in the future?

Kit's avatar

For the time being we're most focused on heat pump installations & HPWHs, because those tend to be the most common installations for LC members; funny enough, we're partly inspired by Solarize (https://www.masscec.com/program/solarize-mass), which has applied this buying model for solar before.

I'd actually be super curious what the cost difference is for a company like https://projectsolar.com/ vs. a contractor you find through https://www.energysage.com/ vs. a big contractor you find via. Google search. If you're interested in getting quotes & publishing your results for everyone else in our research blog, let me know! kit@laminarcollective.com

Is Sudbury included in the spring campaign? Thanks.

Kit's avatar

Yep! MetroWest is included.

Is Medford in-bounds for the spring bulk-buy? any more clarity on the equipment being specified, like a target HSPF2 rating?

Kit's avatar

In bounds! Cold climate, and in case of smaller rooms, the ability to have low turndown ratio (min. heating output) for shoulder-season compatibility. Likely Mitsubishi/Daikin. See here for more context: https://laminarcollective.substack.com/p/the-triple-decker-guide-to-heat-pumps

Quincy/weymouth area!

Kit's avatar

I think we'll have a few people from Quincy & Weymouth. May have to be a bit creative with the walkthrough planning, but we should be able to do it!

Angi Tamborella's avatar

Another Weymouth family that wants in!

Sk's avatar

Do you have any plans to include the south shore? Looking to install one in the near future and getting FOMO 😄

Kit's avatar

We'll probably include Roslindale & Mattapan, etc. but not the Cape. Are you at the Cape?!

Looking forward to the spring campaign, we bought our first house last July and we really want to have heap pump installed before the summer ! Thanks for your contribution to the community Kit and the team !

Perfect timing. We'll be kicking things off towards the end of next week, expect an email update then!
